In the paddock with Rossi – thank you Haynes

Well what a lucky girl I am!

For any of you who have the pleasure of knowing me, I have just had one of the best days of my life courtesy of Haynes Manuals who are now my nbf (new best friend for those who have no idea what I am on about)…

Haynes helped to bring me closer to the love of my life when they invited me to the MotoGP at Donington.

I cannot believe that I was in the paddock with VALENTINO ROSSI! I stood by his truck, looked at his enormous garage and got very excited that I was standing in the same place as the biggest motorcycle legend of all time.

Watching the bikes was magnificent, seeing the speeds they get up to.

And even though it was raining and the love of my life fell off while leading the race (but got back on and finished 5th – legend), I had the greatest day ever.

We stood at the Melbourne loop under our huge brolly and grinned for the whole day.

At the end of the race, I waited for James Toseland to come out of his garage and sign my big brother’s 30th birthday card, as they used to race together many years ago.

I got a big kiss and a cuddle from James, which made me the envy of all the adoring female fans.

I then decided to invite myself to be a member of his race team and his personal assistant – it didn’t work, but I think I can wear him down.

Once I had finished acting like a lusting teenager, I turned round to see the true love of my life… but Valentino had gone. I just saw him zooming off on his scooter.

Alas, my heart broke in to a million pieces.

If you are reading this Mr. Haynes Manuals, THANK YOU. You made a true MotoGP fan very happy and I will put you on my Christmas card list forever.

Halfords: profits up, car repair business growing

Halfords 'We fit' and 'We Repair' sales are up 25%

The car maintenance sector of Halfords’ retail business performed strongly in the financial year 2008/09, according to figures released by the high street giant.

Strong sales growth in these areas was also matched by a 25% increase in the ‘We Fit’ and ‘We Repair’ businesses.

This has helped Halfords record a 2.4% in gross proft of £92m, while net debt was reduced from £181m to £164m.

“Our market-leading We Fit proposition is definitely attracting new customers,” said David Wild, Halfords CEO.

“However, we remain cautious given the fragility of the economy and consumer confidence.”

DENSO expands air con business in UK

Paul Payne: "Fitting quality, branded OE parts pays off in the longterm."

Paul Payne: "Fitting quality, branded Original Equipment parts pays off in the long term."

DENSO is expanding the air conditioning part of its business in the UK.

The rapidly-growing company has announced it is making 25 new OEM specification A/C compressors available to aftermarket customers.

The move, which is designed to extend DENSO’s coverage of Toyota and Lexus vehicles, comes alongside news that the company now supplies 40% of original A/C equipment fitted to European cars.

“DENSO now offers 305 OE specification A/C compressor references,” said UK boss Paul Payne. “This includes swash plate, wobble plate and rotating type units covering all major EU and Asian marques.”

UK stocks are being built up to ensure UK aftermarket customers have easy access to locally available DENSO products.

“Our top 70 A/C compressor references will be offered to factor customers on a free, overnight delivery basis,” said Payne. “This should ensure rapid availability for service garages, repair workshops and A/C specialists across the UK.”

He added: “Over 80% of cars now feature air con – so A/C compressors are one of the product groups most frequently targeted by distributors of cheap and poor quality parts.

“The price of these compressors may seem attractive, but there can be commercial dangers – they often fail early.

“In the long term it makes better sense to fit genuine, branded products that work and last.”

TS Motaquip bucks recession after year in business

The boys from T&S Motaquip: taking the local factoring market by storm

The boys from T&S Motaquip: taking the local factoring market by storm

On the face of it, you couldn’t have started a business at a worse time.

The date was August 1, the year 2008 and Britain had just officially moved into recession. Not only that, but just around the corner lurked the banking crisis – and the onset of the credit crunch.

But August 1 was the date TS Motaquip went into business under the Motaquip Partnership scheme – with new directors Adam and Bernie Taylor, along with Paul Swaby, all giving up secure full-time employment to launch their own company.

Twelve months on though, and with the support of the local garage industry, TS Motaquip is still trading.

In fact, they are more than trading – they are making good money and doing well.

“The support we have had from the trade has been tremendous – we haven’t looked back,” said Adam Taylor, director.

“To start with we were all wondering if our timing in this venture could have been any worse. To launch a new company at the onset of the worst recession for decades, coupled with the banking crisis – who would choose to do that?

“But things have panned out brilliantly and we’ve just grown and grown. Within six months of starting up our company motto became ‘What Recession’, as we were doing better than we ever expected,” added Adam.

Find out how the trio made their first year of trading a success in the October issue of CAT mag.

Euro Car Parts is to distribute the complete aftermarket range of Lemförder-branded steering and suspension components for cars.

While ECP is already the main distributor for Lemförder, this expansion will see even more parts available to independent garages.

ECP chairman Sukhpal Singh (pictured) said: “ECP including the full range of Lemförder steering and suspension parts enables us to supply these vital components off the shelf for a much wider variety of cars.

“We can therefore support the aftermarket in keeping both recent and older vehicles safely in the road – at a reasonable cost.”
