CAT AWARDS MOVES TO MANCHESTER

rsz_cat_awards_101The annual CAT Awards have taken place at the new venue of the Lowry Hotel in Manchester – known to sports fans as where José Mourinho lives.

More than 120 professionals from across the aftermarket enjoyed a networking session and a lunch before the Award ceremony.

Over the past ten years, a CAT Award has become the aftermarket’s most coveted trophy. The prizes are given in eight categories, which include recognition for motor factor chains as well as for individual teams, as voted for by CAT’s readers.

There is also an Achievement Award, which recognises an individual that has made an outstanding contribution to the aftermarket. This year, the Award went to Wendy Williamson, the Chief Exec of the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation trade body in recognition for her work in representing the sector to government and to the public.

CAT Editor, Greg Whitaker said: “The number of votes cast in the Awards was the highest we’ve ever had. Excitingly, the margin between first and second place in two of the categories is the narrowest it has ever been. My thanks go to all the sponsors, nominees and readers who made the event a success”.

Following the Awards lunch, networking continued with the CAT team until the small hours of Saturday morning.

The winners are as follows:

Supplier of the Year (sponsored by PG Automotive)            FPS

Retailer of the Year (sponsored by Haynes)                        Wrexham Motoring Supplies

Factor Chain of the Year (sponsored by Nissens)            Parts Alliance Southwest

A1 MOTOR STORES AWARDS AND SUPPLIER ‘SPEED DATING’

a1_awards

Salloway (middle) presented awards

There might be far fewer conventions and ‘jollies’ abroad these days, but we’re pleased to say that the A1 Conference took 85 delegates and 35 supplier’s reps to the delightful Grand Majestic Hotel on the shores of Lake Maggiore in Italy. Particular mention should be given to the five suppliers, which sponsored the convention, namely Tetrosyl, Comline, Trico, Platinum and FPS.

On the day of arrival, the guests enjoyed a trip on the lake, plus a decent evening’s feed. However, in the morning after breakfast it was down to work for the Supplier meetings. Members paired up and had strictly timed five-minute sessions with each supplier. Of course, if the discussions needed to go on longer then there was plenty of opportunity later, but the point of the exercise was to introduce members to suppliers that they may not have previously had a dialogue with.

AWARDS
a1_award_winnersThe evening event was a black-tie dinner. A1’s Head of Operations, Simon Salloway called everyone to order and announced the winners of the 2016 A1 Motor Stores’ Supplier Awards. There were only four to be made, and the accolade was taken very seriously by the suppliers as all the awards were voted for by the entire membership. See the side panel for who won.

Actually there was one more announcement to make and it was an emotional one too. A1 members Phil and Pauline Taylor from Motormania were retiring straight after the conference. Motomania has been a member of A1 for all but two years of the group’s existence and Phil had a few words to say before signing off. He said, “In all the years of being involved in membership and heading up the executive as Chairman in the past, I have never seen the group in such a healthy and exciting position. A1

certainly does have a part to play in our industry and I wish I could turn back the clock and still be part of it. I think Simon Salloway is bringing the changes and new initiative to A1 that we need and I’m sure the group will grow from strength to strength. Pauline and I would like to thank A1 members and suppliers, old and new, for allowing us to have such an enjoyable career and we wish you all success moving forward.”

We wish the Taylor’s all the best and look forward to another great event next year.

BELTON MASSEY SCOOPS THREE AWARDS

October 2014 –Belton Massey is celebrating after scooping three awards for ‘Achievement in International
Business’, ‘Manufacturer of the Year’, as well as the prestigious ‘Business of the Year’, at this year’s Derbyshire
and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce (DNCC) awards.
The Nottinghamshire based company, which produces catalytic converters, DPFs and front pipes for the
automotive aftermarket, and employs over 200 staff, won the ultimate accolades after demonstrating
continuing development, success, commitment to innovation and excellent governance.
Accepting the award on behalf of Belton Massey, Chairman John Massey stated:
“We are absolutely elated to have won the awards for ‘Achievement in International Business’, ‘Manufacturer
of the Year’, as well as ‘Business of the Year’ at this year’s DNCC Awards. Finding out that we had been
shortlisted for the awards was a huge accolade in itself for the company, but winning both awards and then
being crowned ‘Business of the Year’, especially given the calibre of such prestigious competition, is a complete
surprise, a fantastic honour and both personally and professionally rewarding for everyone involved.”
“These awards will not only provide a fantastic boost for the management team and our staff as we continue to
expand in European and global markets, but it is great to see that we are being commended for our excellence
in manufacturing and achievement in international business. There is no doubt that the European markets
are some of the most competitive anywhere in the world, so to have achieved so much, so quickly, and to be
recognised for our ability to develop products before market demands them, is fantastic.”
“These awards are a testament to the whole company and its achievement, so I’d like to thank the team for
helping us get to where we are today. I would also like to thank the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber
of Commerce for acknowledging our efforts.”
Having recently expanded its manufacturing facilities in Nottinghamshire and announced that its export sales
surpassed domestic sales for the first time in 2014, the news of winning three accolades at this year’s DNCC
Awards, rounds off a great year for the company. Most recently its BM Catalysts brand launched a new Premium
Range of Catalytic Converters at Automechanika in Frankfurt earlier this month.
