GSF OPENS BRISTOL NORTH BRANCH

Factor chain GSF Car Parts has announced the opening of a new store in Bristol.

Located at the Aztec West Business Park, Bristol North joins its South and central branches within the region as part of company expansion plans.

Following a similar setup to other stores, the 10,000sq ft. facility houses GSF’s fastest selling lines including braking, filtration and clutches with a strong focus on OE equipment for workshops.

“We’ll be looking initially within a 15 mile radius for deliveries”, said Simon McMullen, Regional Director at GSF Car Parts. “Our analysis suggests this gives us well over 100 garages and associated trades to target, so there are lot of opportunities for us” adding that the factor hasn’t ruled out building more sites across the city.

He concluded. “We’ve got experienced staff in place who know Bristol well. It’s been a great team effort to find and fit out suitable premises, put the staff in place and open with stock on the shelves – all in under a couple of months. We’re sure there’s even more potential for us around the area and we’ve been excited by the enthusiastic response already.”

For more information on deliveries and opening times, garages can head over to the GSF website.

GSF REPLACE 60 PERCENT OF VAN FLEET

Factor chain GSF Car Parts has ordered 350 new vans to replace some of the older vehicles in its fleet in a deal valued at £3.5m

GSF has already taken delivery of 12 Peugeot Partner vans at its Birmingham head office but, during the course of 2017, will replace a total of 350 vehicles – representing some 60 percent of its UK fleet – across its nationwide network of 65 branches.

Following the takeover of the company by Hg-owned Parts Alliance in 2015, the management of the GSF fleet is being transferred into The Parts Alliance Group’s fleet team, under Steve Evans, Group Fleet Manager and Tony Shearer, Branch Operational Services Director.

“This is a major investment that will bring the GSF van fleet into line with our fleet policy for the rest of the group,” said Tony Shearer. “We generally work on a four to five year and 150,000 mile replacement cycle.”

The vehicles are being financed through fleet management firm Zenith and sourced though Robins and Day, a London dealer owned directly by Peugeot.

GSF AVOID ADVERTISING WATCHDOG ACTION

GSF AVOID ADVERTISING WATCHDOG ACTION

GSF Car Parts have avoided any further action for a promotional campaign, following a complaint from a member of the public.

The issue revolved around a promotional email for GSF Car Parts sent on 26 August 2016 that stated: “45% OFF* ALL CAR PARTS. Offer valid from Friday 26th to Monday 29th August”, A footnote at the bottom of the ad stated “… GSF Car Parts reserves the right to withdraw these offers at any time. Offer valid from Friday 26th August to Monday 29th August at 23.59”.

The complainant wrote to the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) to challenge whether the ad was misleading because they received a subsequent email on  August 30, which stated that the closing date for the offer had been extended until September 1.

GSF responded to the watchdog that a problem occurred with the server used to process ‘Click and Collect’ orders shortly after the email was sent. They said that the server was used to send those orders to the relevant GSF Car Parts branch and because of that problem, the service was unavailable. The chain added that it was never their intention to mislead or place any consumers at a disadvantage; it said it extended the offer in good faith to their customers who had been unable to use the GSF website because of the technical problem.

A statement from the ASA said: “We considered that GSF Car Parts took action as soon as they could to resolve the problem and we understood the problem was the motivation behind their decision to extend the closing date of the promotional period”. No further action was necessary.

GSF Car Parts has been acquired by The Parts Alliance in the latest high-profile takeover in the aftermarket.

The addition of GSF’s 75 branches brings the total number in The Parts Alliance network to well over 300, 160 under common ownership, giving the Solihull-based business group increased coverage in the UK and Ireland.

Investment group HgCapital continues to support The Parts Alliance with the acquisition of GSF which will be a wholly-owned business within Group but trade locally under its own brand name.

GSF will continue under the Chairmanship of Stan West and his current management team. Stan West will also join the Board of the Group.

Commenting on the merger, Stan West, Chairman and founder of GSF, said: “This marks a great new chapter in the evolution of the company that I founded in 1977. GSF’s merger with The Parts Alliance and HgCapital’s investment allow us to maintain not only our culture and brand but also helps to create a true market leader.”

Peter Sephton, Chief Executive of The Parts Alliance, said: “This is a hugely significant acquisition which strengthens the product choice, service, value and expertise that we offer to our independent and national customers alike.

“GSF is a dynamic and successful business and I’m delighted to welcome Stan West and his 1,000 colleagues to our growing group. It’s a great match.  We share the same values and both believe in building lasting relationships with customers and suppliers.

“This deal gives us unrivalled coverage: ensuring delivery on the ground to national and independent garages and workshops by people who really understand their local market.”

Stan West added: “I am looking forward to working with Peter and the Board to position the group as a class-leading supplier to the automotive aftermarket.”
