PEOPLE NEWS: JIM MAZZA JOINS PDP BUYING GROUP

Buying group Parts Distribution Partnership has announced that Jim Mazza will be joining the Group’s management team with immediate effect. Working with the members, he will assist in every aspect of the groups development.

Jim Mazza will be best known to CAT readers as the former Managing Director of AAG’s trading groups in the UK. Prior to that, he enjoyed a successful career at plumbing and builder’s merchant Wolseley UK.

PDP Chair, Alastair Whatmore commented: “With consolidation in the market showing little signs of slowing down, we recognise the need to change, to grow and to develop a group that is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities that undoubtedly exist for independent motor factors and suppliers. Jim has an impressive track record in the automotive aftermarket and brings to our group a wealth of experience and buying group knowledge which will undoubtedly help us achieve our objectives”.

Jim Mazza added: “A decision to join the PDP team was not taken lightly and having spent some time looking at what the PDP does and its hopes and aspirations, I came away convinced that the group presents exciting prospects to grow and develop initially for the benefit of the existing membership, but ultimately for those motor factors looking for safe harbour in turbulent times”.

“PDP is undoubtedly a platform to build on, and I am looking forward with relish to working with the group, its members and its supplier partners and helping PDP achieve its ambitions”.

AUTOSTORES GROUP ACQUIRES BARUM AUTOPARTS

Barum barnstableSouth-West based factor chain Barum Autoparts has been acquired by the Autostores Group. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The six-branch chain was started in Barnstable in 1990 by David Payne and David Knight. A previous nominee for the Factor of the Year CAT Award, the group also includes  Mike Best Auto Components in St. Austell.

Confirming the acquisition, Autostores MD Alastair Whatmore  said: “This will be a positive addition to our own company and we are looking forward to working with the Barum team, customers and suppliers in the future”.

Whatmore also noted that the acquisition would be a ‘welcome addition’ to the Parts Distribution Partnership (PDP) buying group, which he also chairs. The PDP had been seeking new members since the departure of Pat Williams, Partservice and others earlier in the year.

SPARTAN LEAVES PARTS DISTRIBUTION PARTNERSHIP FOR IFA

SPARTAN

Newport-based Spartan has announced that it has joined the IFA buying group.

The factor had previously been a member of the Parts Distribution Partnership (PDP) but was one of five members to leave the group in August.

The move must have come as a blow to the PDP as it has lost five out of twenty-one members  in just a few weeks. It had already lost Panks of Norwich, which rejoined GroupAuto. More significantly, founder members Pat Williams, Partservice and Carspares Factors London left the group on the same day.

While no party has commented on reasons for leaving the PDP, Spartan is delighted to be joining the IFA. “It seems to be a good fit for both us and the IFA” said Lee Gratton, a Director at Spartan. “We’re really looking forward to dealing with some new suppliers who they are aligned with”.
