UK aftermarket firms head to Automechanika Frankfurt

More than a hundred UK aftermarket firms have headed to Germany this week for the Automechanika Frankfurt trade show.

The UK’s £56.5 billion aftermarket sector is a major economic contributor, with some 56,500 businesses supporting more than 330,000 jobs in all regions of the country. The sector’s value is now ahead of pre-pandemic levels, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has said.

UK exhibitors, from Autogem to Town and Country Covers, will present everything from innovative brake systems to EV tech. Showcasing this to international consumers at the Messe Frankfurt event offers a great potential for growth, according to SMMT chief Mike Hawes.

Of particular interest is the growth in demand for parts and components for hybrids and EVs. With manufacturers pouring billions of pounds into developing new zero emission and automated technologies, the volume of these models that need servicing continues to surge. One in 40 vehicles on UK roads is now fully electric.

“The UK’s multi-billion pound aftermarket is renowned for its excellence and it plays a pivotal role keeping motorists and business on the move,” said Hawes.

“That mobility is, increasingly, electrified and Britain’s switch to zero emission vehicles will only be sustainable for the long term with a vibrant and innovative aftermarket. Automechanika Frankfurt provides a significant opportunity to drive existing and new partnerships, accelerating business growth and innovation which, ultimately, benefits the whole UK economy and its consumers.”
