Halfords writes to National Tyres’ customers following takeover

Halfords has written to National Tyres’ customer base following the latter’s acquisition by the former in December.

Graham Stapleton

In the message, Halfords CEO Graham Stapleton explains the takeover and what it will mean for motorists. This include now being part of a network with more than 600 branches, high TrustPilot score and the upcoming launch of  a Halfords ‘clubcard’.

Halfords had previously expressed a desire to operate 800 garage branches in the UK, a figure it will now easily surpass, although it is unclear from the email if the acquired business will continue to operate under the National Tyres brand.

The national retailer announced the takeover deal on December 1st. It included  all 604 branches of National Tyres & Autocare, plus eight Viking wholesale warehouses and the Tyre Shopper website in a deal to acquire all shares in holdings company Axle Group. There is no suggestion of redundancies, particularly as both firms had been struggling to recruit and retain enough technicians prior to the deal.

At the time Stapleton, commented: This acquisition helps cement our position as the UK’s largest vehicle service, maintenance and repair  business. It will also see us deliver on our established strategy of evolving Halfords to become a  Motoring Services focused business, with Motoring revenue set to represent more than 70% of our pro forma revenue following the acquisition”
