IGA LAUNCH DATABASE OF GARAGES ‘SAFE’ FOR DATA ACCESS

The Independent Garage Association is to build a database of garages that are ‘safe’ and can be trusted by VMs to access security-related systems.

The plan comes in light of Block Exemption renewal in 2023, and the increased data security levels on modern ‘connected’ vehicles. To start, the trade body wants to build a network of audited and verified independent garages, to be known as ‘Garage Safe’, which is planned to be in place by Q3 2021.

Scheme launched to allow indi’s access to data

Once this vetted network is established, it can then move to the next stage of enrolling the garages on to a platform that has already been established within the USA called the National Automotive Service Task Force.

“As your representative trade body, we are taking steps to establish and maintain continued access to security level vehicle data beyond 2023” the IGA states in a member’s briefing document. “As this exciting project is the first of its kind in the UK it will take some time to get up and running, and we cannot guarantee that it will be a success”.

“However, this is your opportunity to join a national network of independent garages recognised for their transparency and integrity, and safeguard access to the security level repair and maintenance information you need”.

Anyone interested in joining the GarageSafe scheme should call the IGA member helpline on 01788 225 908 or email enquiries@rmif.co.uk for a registration form.
