As the automotive aftermarket prepares for 2025, the industry anticipates significant shifts driven by new emissions standards and government policies. One of the most pressing changes is the potential introduction of an enhanced emissions test for particulate number (PN) on diesel vehicles equipped with Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs).
The decision on this test is still pending, but BM Catalysts, Europe’s leading manufacturer of hot end emissions products, supports the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) in advocating for its implementation.
If introduced, the enhanced test will place greater emphasis on ensuring diesel vehicles meet strict particulate emissions targets, driving demand for high-quality emissions solutions. Mark Blinston, Commercial Director at BM Catalysts, is highlighting how the change aligns with the company’s focus on Euro 6 DPF development, as BM Catalysts has been proactively expanding its product range to meet evolving market needs, with a particular focus on Euro 6 DPFs.
BM Catalysts has also invested in infrastructure to support the growing demand. In 2023, the company acquired a 41,000-square-foot warehouse next to its Fulwood Rise production plant, bringing total manufacturing and warehousing space to over 214,000 square feet.
These investments enable BM Catalysts to expand production capacity, increase stock availability and enhance dispatch efficiency, ensuring quicker service for its customers.
The company’s product portfolio now includes over 4,900 parts, covering 90 percent of the European car parc, with more than 300 new parts introduced annually. This expansion includes over 1.44 million vehicles covered by Euro 6 DPF offerings, which is a trend expected to continue as particulate matter regulations evolve
Looking ahead to 2025, BM Catalysts is expecting increased sales in emerging aftermarket technologies such as Gasoline Particulate Filters (GPFs) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems, which will become increasingly important as stricter emissions standards are enforced.
Blinston is emphasising that these technologies will be essential for workshops and distributors, who must ensure compliance with the latest regulations. He comments: “As emissions standards tighten, the automotive aftermarket must adapt, and BM Catalysts is committed to providing innovative, compliant solutions to help our customers meet these challenges.”
