Pro-Align is asking garages to help motorists protect their investment in winter tyres.

With more motorists taking the industry up on its winter tyre message, Kwik-Fit reports that demand for winter tyres at its depots has quadrupled in the past four years.

Growth from a small base might be exaggerated, and we know the UK is way behind Europe when it comes to taking up winter tyres, but there is no doubt that demand is growing.

Pro-Align, through its online centre locator AlignMyCar.co.uk is promoting four wheel alignment services to motorists. The company says that with household budgets remaining tight drivers who have made the switch to winter tyres will want them to last longer. Alignment could be a cost effective way of correcting more errors.

The company’s Kathryn Beaurain said: “When fitting new tyres to a car, it is vitally important that the vehicle has a thorough 14 point alignment check at the same time.

“Failing to have your wheels aligned means that your new tyres may suffer from rapid or uneven wear. Not only does this lead to higher running costs as the tyres will need replacing much sooner and increased fuel consumption, but it can also compromise your safety on the road as well.”
