SWITCH TO EV ‘DRIVEN BY POLITICAL OBJECTIVES’ – MAHLE BOSS

The CEO of component manufacturer Mahle has stated that it would be folly to simply switch to EV powertrains at the expense of all other technology to simply fulfil a political objective.

Speaking in a press conference in Stuttgart, Dr. Jörg Stratmann, CEO and chairman of the Board said: “At the moment, the change in powertrain technologies is driven primarily by political objectives. The current one-dimensional debate focused on a single drive is not productive. We want a dialog that has a basis in technology.”

Stratmann held the conference to explain his firm’s ‘dual strategy’: which is to include development of technology including electrification, hydrogen fuel cell, and the use of other alternative fuels in ‘intelligently electrified combustion engines’.

He went on to explain that the group maintains R&D investments at high level despite crisis and that expansion of global ‘competence centres’ will further strengthen this research.
