PEOPLE NEWS: THREE NEW HIRES AT ELTA AUTOMOTIVE

Midlands-based supplier Elta Automotive has started the New Year with the hire of three reps.

Incoming UK Sales Director Craig O’Neil joins from rival Ring Automotive where he worked for over a decade, variously as an Area Sales Manager. Business Development Manager and latterly, Key Accounts Manager.

Meanwhile, Stuart Poole rejoins Elta as Commercial Manager. Previously he had been Pricing Manager at the firm for nine years, but left in 2017 for a stint at ATS Euromaster.

Also rejoining, Michael Ballinger is now Director of Sales (Europe). He also worked for Elta in a similar role for the best part of a decade, but left in 2016 and has been employed by Trico, Sogefi and Ring Automotive since.

In October 2018 a Management buy-out of Elta was orchestrated by MD Ian Hallam with business partner Vladimír Palacka. This led to a ‘rejuvenation of spirit that had been part of [the firm’s] original success’ according to Michael Ballinger.

ELTA AUTOMOTIVE IN MANAGEMENT BUY-OUT

Component supplier and Lucas licence holder, Elta Automotive has been subject to a management buy-out.

Terms of the MBO have not been announced, nut current MD Ian Hallam, who has worked with Elta since the company was incorporated, has become the company’s co-owner, alongside long-term European partner Luxline spol. s r.o – lead by Vladimír Palacka. Ian Hallam and Luxline become equal shareholders of a new holding company, Elta Investments replacing the previous holding company, Claverdon Fields.

The formation of a newco required the existing Lucas licence to be renegotiated. Elta will continue to supply bulbs, wiper blade and switchgear under the Lucas brand in the UK and Continental Europe, but engine management products bearing the name will now be supplied by SMPE.  As a result, Elta’s engine management programme will be supplied under the ‘Pro’ brand, announced last year.

“Our relationship with the iconic Lucas brand remains extremely important and will be a cornerstone of our European offering” remarked Hallam.

“However, as would be expected, a change of ownership inevitably requires a new licence agreement with the brand owners, which is why we are particularly delighted to be able to announce that this has been secured and on a mutually positive basis for both parties” he said, adding that he was ‘thrilled’ with the prospect of a ‘significantly wider territory’ to sell the Lucas brand into.

VISION OF THE FUTURE: NEW BRANDS FOR ELTA AUTOMOTIVE

Midlands-based supplier Elta Automotive has announced the introduction two new brands, VisionPro and VXPro catering for lighting and engine management products respectively.

The company has been best known over the years for being a licensee of the Lucas brand, but a push to get the firm’s into new markets in Europe, and into the hands of new technicians domestically, has led to the introduction of the new ranges which the company says are aimed at the upper end of the aftermarket.

In the case of ignition products, each unit will be shipped in an anti-static bag and the carton will contain fitting notes.

“In this, our 25th year, we are taking a strategic step to address what we believe is a great opportunity for independents within the sector,” said Ian Hallam, MD at the firm. “As the market has evolved and the influence of the big buying groups increased, independent factors and their workshop customers need to have access to a premium quality brand they can call their own”.

The firm will continue to be a Lucas licensee and products under that brand will be unaffected by the new introductions.
