AUTOINFORM LIVE ONCE AGAIN

The 2017 edition of the AutoInform Live technical training and networking event  has been held once again at the GTG Academy in Wolverhampton with around 200 attendees.

Diagnostic training expert and workshop owner, Frank Massey was on-hand to deliver training sessions on future technologies and industry issues, such as ‘Pumping losses’ – the mechanical inefficiency of a gasoline engine caused by the position of the throttle – and vibration analysis.

Speaking about the event, Massey said: “The event changes every year, and each time we try to put a different ‘flavour’ on it; for example, we might concentrate on ignition, common rail or emissions, which is a really big issue at the moment”.

“It means we have to do a lot of research – which is great for us – and to-date it’s been really well received. We’re getting good numbers and the right calibre of people: those who want to progress and succeed in the industry.”

Schaeffler’s Technical Services Manager, Malcolm Short added: “We try to refresh the event every year, with more presentations, updated content and new suppliers.

“The garages love that this event takes place at the weekend: we did a survey after the Edinburgh show and people responded overwhelmingly that they wanted it on Saturday and Sunday as it meant they weren’t taking time out of their busy working weeks.”

AutoInform Live launched in 2014 with the support of the Original Equipment Suppliers Aftermarket Assoc. (OESAA), replacing a series of conferences organised by the Massey family. There was also an addition of the show held in Glasgow earlier this year.

EQUIPAUTO 2017 UNDERWAY

The biennial Equipauto exhibition is currently underway in Paris.

Official visitor figures are not available until after the show, but the organiser has indicated that it is pleased with the number of visitors, with a figure of 100,000 indicated on a pre-show communication.

Highlights of the fringe have included a number of discussions (in French) on the subjects of the connected car and the future of the aftermarket, while the show itself has played host to a number of presentations and launches from the likes of Hella, AAG France, Falken Tyres and Federal Mogul.

A Grand Prix D’Or was held to celebrate innovations in service and garage equipment. Bosch won trophies in three out of eight possible categories with awards also being taken by Hella France, ENV4, Mixplast and Robot-Wash.

Look out for a full report in November issue CAT.

FUTURE IS NOW AS AUTOPROMOTEC GETS UNDERWAY

The biennial Autopromotec trade fair is underway in Bologna.

The 2017 edition sees 1,651 exhibitors, of which 42 percent are from countries other than Italy with the UK, Germany and Spain as well as China and Taiwan making up the greatest number of international exhibitors.

Also new for this edition is an entire hall transformed into a ‘Workshop Concept’ with demonstrations of equipment, both current and prototype, that will form the garage of the future.

The show has returned all the usual features, including a busy seminar programme that has presentations and training by experts and legislators from all over Europe.

When asked, Autopromotec Show Manager Emanuele Vicentini admitted that it was ‘a risk’ to have such a number of training based attractions that could potentially take visitors away from the floor. “However, we feel that it is important that garage owners and technicians can touch and see the equipment of the future, as we want to make sure the aftermarket trade is ready for the challenges that await in the coming years” he said.
