CAT’s Inside Line: The RMI

by

RMI bannerThe RMI’s Terry Gibson talks through some good profit opportunities on the Ford Focus:

Focus’ fitted with DPF filters are a good additional extra when in for service, we are receiving more calls to the technical helpline with vehicles in limp mode due to the drivers not completing the regeneration cycle. This could be avoided if the system was checked at service before the filter becomes blocked.

Watch out for Glow plug fault codes logged in the system with no warning lights illuminated, faulty glow plugs can interrupt the DPF regeneration process and put the engine in limp mode.

Focus diesel engines when in for service check for fault codes in the system even if there is no engine management warning lights illuminated, there is every chance there could be old fault codes there for water in the fuel system, in particular P0251pump fault or P1211 pressure issues. From this extra work for a fuel system clean out.

Focus diesel engines fitted with dual mass flywheels, check for vibrations/judder when in for service.

All the above are good extra add on repairs when in for service as well as the usual tyres, antifreeze or brake fluid changes.
