AFTERMARKET RECOVERY ‘HIGHER THAN EXPECTATIONS’

A report published by trade body GiPA has found that Q2 figures across the UK aftermarket were 2.9 percent ahead of expectations, and a double-digit recovery when compared with the same period in 2020.

However, the quarterly Aftermarket Pulse report  has found that the market remains ‘far from having recovered’ from 2019 levels.

The drop was expected due to the knock-on effect of the MOT extension, something GiPa expects to change the nature of garage work for years to come.

GiPA UK General Manager, Quentin Le Hetet said: The real challenge for workshops will be during the second half of the year as they will face unprecedented volume of MOT tests to be carried out”.

“Levelling up their capacity is going to be challenging when thinking of shortage of staff, pressure on the part supply chain, and increase parts pricing due to raw material price increase. It is important to see every entry as an opportunity and make the most of it,” he concluded.

The Aftermarket Pulse report provides granular analysis of workshops and of operations.
