AA goes after garages by launching home servicing

The AA, one of the UK’s biggest breakdown providers, will pivot by also offering a new service-at-home product, putting it directly into competition with local garages.

Called AA Mobile Mechanics, the new on-demand product enables drivers to have their vehicles serviced without the need of leaving their homes.

It will initially be trialled across Manchester and Birmingham.

The brand says it “provides greater flexibility and convenience for customers” as AA Mobile Mechanics are able to carry out manufacture servicing as well as full and interim services at a location of the driver’s choice – be it at home or at work.

James Hosking, managing director of AA Prestige, Autocentres and Garage Services said: “Our new mobile servicing offer will help drivers keep their show on the road by offering garage level maintenance away from the repair shop.

“Many drivers don’t have time to go to the garage and often it is difficult to get a loan car, so using AA Mobile Mechanics means we can let people carry on with their day while our experts do all the hard work.

“As drivers are keeping their cars longer, it’s more important than ever to have regular servicing as it can prevent breakdowns and a costlier bill further down the line should anything go wrong.”

The Independent Garage Association, the body that represents local garages across the UK, has been contacted for its response.
