MERCEDES REACHES OBD AGREEMENT WITH SCAN TOOL MAKER

Daimler AG has reached an agreement with Mahle for access to encoded security data through the OBD ports of Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Users of certain Mahle or Brain Bee tools will now be able to purchase security certificates through a Daimler portal with an annual subscription from the toolmaker.

“With this agreement, we’re giving independent workshops much greater flexibility when it comes to servicing Mercedes-Benz vehicles,” says Joachim Schneeweiss, Head of Sales at Mahle Aftermarket Service Solutions.

Daimler AG is to introduce a security gateway to prevent aftermarket access to what it defines as security-relevant functions of its vehicles. This means that technicians without a security certificate and the appropriate tool will be ale to read, but not write or delete via the OBD interface.
