2/3 BELIEVE ‘NO CLEAR VISION’ FOR THE FUTURE OF TRANSPORT

by

Only a third of transport sector leaders feel the UK government has a clear vision for the country’s transport.

The result comes from new research by transformation consultancy Moorhouse. The report also found that just 18 percent believe that any vision on the future of UK transport is extremely clear.

Nine out of ten survey respondents believe that government policy significant affects their strategy and investment decisions, while 85 percent believe a lack of clarity has negatively affected their organizations.

The report was complied from interviews and surveys conducted with over 130 board members representing companies in a variety of transport and infrastructure organizations. Together, the companies surveyed oversee a total spend of some £2.1 billion.

Principal and Transport Sector lead at Moorhouse Jason Byrne said: “The UK’s transport sector is mired in uncertainty, as this data clearly shows. To remain competitive on a global scale, attract investment and create jobs, the UK needs a clear vision for the country’s transport network.

“Without clarity, the industry cannot make long-term strategic decisions, or understand where best to invest its resource. This lack of clear direction is grinding UK transport and infrastructure to a halt, and transport organisations risk wasting money by investing in the wrong areas or failing to adequately understand the benefits expected from these initiatives.”
