CAT Editor Peter Lawton joined an international panel of judges at a trade show this week to help identify and reward cutting edge developments in automotive technology and equipment.
The International Grand Prix for Automotive Innovation is part of the French Equip Auto exhibition and is in its 15th year.
Lawton was on the panel for the second time and, after whittling down to a shortlist of 27 entrants from hundreds of nominations, joined fellow judges in Paris for presentations from the wide range of companies hoping to win gold or silver in one of four categories.
Triumphant entrants voted for by Lawton included Bosch Fun2drive, an app which provides feedback to motorists on their driving behaviour but which can also transmit diagnostic information on the health of a car’s operational systems to workshops.
This telemetry is particularly relevant to CAT’s readership as it can safeguard contact between motorists and workshops as the level of technology in cars increases and becomes more sophisticated.
Lawton also voted for the Fillon Technologies Daisy Wheel car paint storage system which can save bodyshops space and money thanks to its efficient packaging and sophisticated mixing technology.
Other prize-winners backed by Lawton included a new paint which reflects more UV light, a system for cost-effectively replacing valves on tyres fitted with pressure monitoring systems and a mobile air tool solution for technicians on the go.
