Gates says that its aftermarket profile has soared with the news that the Opel Ampera, recently named Car of the Year at the Geneva Motor Show, is fitted with Gates’ Stretch-Fit technology.

Both the Ampera and its US counterpart, the Chevrolet Volt, use Stretch Fit technology from Gates in their drive systems to increase efficiency.

Gates says its Stretch Fit technology renders traditional belt tensioners superfluous, although the technology is still far outmatched in terms of volume.

Regional Sales Manager for Gates Nick Racklyeft said: “The quality provided by the Stretch Fit belts is exactly what car manufacturers are looking for in their efforts to produce more compact engines with less weight, lower fuel consumption and less emissions.”

41 Stretch Fit references are currently available to the aftermarket, with four re-usable tools also being sold in conjunction with the technology.
