A shipment of 10,000 counterfeit drive belts and packaging has been seized at a dealer in Dubai.

The parts, packaged under the logo of ContiTech, were seized as part of a successful strike against fake products in the United Arab Emirates.

The fake goods, taken from the premises of Dubai dealer Asia Tiger Auto Parts LLC were destroyed after being seized.

Proceedings against the dealer have already begun but the manufacturer of the counterfeit goods could not be traced.

The pirated V-ribbed belts and sleeves are almost indistinguishable from their real counterparts, although ContiTech said that some of the packaging contained the company’s old logo.

Lars Klostermann, from ContiTech’s technical service department said that workshops should only ever procure their goods from official company partners. “This is the only way that customers can be certain that they really are purchasing a belt which has the quality of the ContiTech original,” he said.
