MPs lobbied to back car recharging network

Politicians at the Labour and Conservative party conferences this autumn will be told about the need for a nationwide infrastructure of electric vehicle recharging stations.

GM and electric vehicle recharging station company Elektromotive are joining forces to lobby politicians to back their vision for the future of electric motoring in the UK.

They will demonstrate Elektromotive’s Elektrobay charging station and Vauxhall’s extended-range electric vehicle, the five-door Ampera that will go on sale in 2012.

“Britain must be prepared for the arrival of mass-produced electric cars by putting in place a suitable charging infrastructure,” said Elektromotive MD Calvey Taylor-Haw.

“By showing the MPs how this technology works and highlighting the fact it is available now, they will gain a true understanding of the how fast the industry is developing.

“Hopefully, this will encourage them to push for more projects across the UK that will see the installation of electric vehicle charging facilities.”
