Garages should have a hard time finding Honda’s on their forecourts, according to research by MB&G.

The warranty specialists have compiled a list of the top ten car brands with the fewest warranty claims, with Honda coming out on top.

In fact, Japanese brands have done very well in the survey, with Lexus, Mitsubishi and Toyota falling just behind Honda at the top of the list.

It comes as no surprise that the majority of the top ten brands are Japanese and Korean. Most are now manufactured in the UK, adding to their reputation for reliability.

MB&G said that in the past few years they’ve seen the average age of cars with warranty claims skyrocket.

With more and more owners choosing to keep older cars running for longer rather than having to buy a new model, customers are for the first time finding themselves lumbered with the larger costs of running an older car.

Kevin Pearce, a director of MB&G said: “Modern day cars are reliable, but if something starts to go wrong, it’s more likely to be in the fourth or fifth years, or when the mileage reaches 70-100,000 miles.

Cars are packed full of electronic equipment that control everything from the engine management system to the automatic gearbox and a small software glitch can often create issues, in addition to the other components that can fail simply through wear and tear.

Many components are now not repaired as they used to be, but simply replaced, this resulting in the average claim value starting to increase.”
