The 2007 Ford Mondeo was launched with a new range of engines, following a trend for downsizing over the previous model. For petrol engines, the 1.8-litre was replaced by a new 1.6-litre unit, while the thirsty 3.0-litre engine was dropped from the range altogether. The popular 2.0-litre petrol engine was retained. For its diesel models, Ford introduced new 1.6-litre and 1.8-litre engines alongside the established 2.0-litre and 2.2-litre units.
Castrol points out that every engine in the current generation Ford Mondeo was designed to run on fully-synthetic, low viscosity Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 engine oil.
It’s important that vehicle technicians top-up these vehicles with the correct oil formulation. Anything other than the recommended fully-synthetic Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 – or any oil which lacks the relevant Ford WSS-M2C913-C approval – may reduce the efficiency, performance and longevity of the engine.
Oil change intervals for the current Ford Mondeo are one year / 12,500 miles for every model in the range, although – being popular among high-mileage drivers – many may be driven further than that in a year. Workshops should consider offering customers a one-litre bottle of the recommended Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 oil in case the motorist needs to top-up their car’s oil between workshop visits. This can also help customer satisfaction and retention, as the workshop can demonstrate that they have their customers’ best interests at heart.
Castrol Magnatec 5W-30 A1 is the only oil recommended by Ford for use in the Mondeo as it offers the best blend of efficiency, performance and engine protection for its engines.
