Weighing in at more than two tons and standing well over six feet tall, with a capacity for high mileage cruising and serious off road use, it’s easy to understand why the Range Rover’s steering & suspension components can wear quickly, particularly when fitted with upgraded 22” diameter wheels.
Independent multi-link front suspension, featuring both upper and lower suspension arms, delivers excellent handling, but is prone to wear, which is often identified by a knocking noise, especially when going over rough ground. Similar knocking or clunking noises from the rear suspension, can usually be traced back to worn rear hub bushes, which if not replaced, can not only cause vibration within the body and chassis, but also have an adverse effect on the handling.
As with all ‘handed’ steering and suspension components, FLG recommend technicians replace both sides at the same time, as it is often the case that if the one side has suffered wear then the opposite will also have been subject to similar damage and even though it may not be evident at the time, it may need replacing soon after.
