Inside Line: Meyle

by

Sven Nielsen, Technical Director from Meyle, talks to CAT about some of the problems that may arise with the Vauxhall Corsa:

1. Stabiliser links often worn out

Problem:

Intense strain and high surface pressure wear and stress on the ball joint (head Ø 19 mm). This causes a premature failure of the ball joint and generates noise at the front axle.

Meyle’s Solution:

MEYLE in house engineers increased the diameter of the ball head of the tie rod end to 22 mm. Ball joints were given wear-resistant synthetic ball sockets with high-tech grease. The reduction of the surface pressure ensures a significantly longer lifetime.

Our engineers are passionate about improving our MEYLE-HD stabilizer links constantly seeking new ways of refining all components. To make installation and removal procedures easier for our customers, more and more MEYLE-HD stabilizer links are designed with a wrench attachment at the ball pin. A distinguishing advantage, in particular over those original designs which lack this value-adding feature.

Owing to the larger ball head the ball surface on MEYLE-HD stabilizer links has been increased by 50%. This way we have managed to significantly improve the part‘s load carrying capacity along with its service life. The blue clip-on plastic socket adds additional strength to the MEYLE-HD part.

The results of endurance tests performed at the Hamburg Helmut Schmidt University are an impressive proof of the quality of MEYLE-HD stabilizer links:
No evidence of joint play even after 1,000,000 test cycles!

2. Worn out shock absorbers

Problem:

Many car drivers lack awareness of the vital role shock absorbers play for overall car safety. Wear eating away at the shock absorber often does not show until the car’s operational safety is at risk. The parts wear away gradually, many defects are not visible at first glance, but their impact on the overall car system is dramatic.

Meyle’s Solution:

Properly functioning shock absorbers reduce braking distances, ensure excellent road holding when cornering and trouble-free operation of state-of-the-art driver assistance systems such as ABS, ESP or TCS. This is why it is important for workshops to employ only high-grade spare parts designed to perform this safety-critical function.
With MEYLE’s high-quality shock absorbers for the Vauxhall Corsa from 2006 on, independent workshops are well equipped for the repair of these safety-critical components. Even when exposed to the highest dynamic stress, MEYLE shock absorbers ensure an enhanced driving experience: when braking, accelerating, cornering or riding on bumpy roads. What makes them special is the superior quality of their components including the piston seal and precision-honed piston rod, rounded off by damping characteristics specially geared to each vehicle and 100 percent performance-tested.
MEYLE also offers rubber buffer and dust cap kits optimally geared to each shock absorber complemented by a range of strut mounts. This allows workshops to replace wear and tear parts of the suspension and damping systems, relying exclusively on high-grade MEYLE products.

3. Frequently damaged crank position sensors

Problem:

Crank sensors frequently cause erratic running and misfires. Broken crank sensors can lead to an error message in the engine control unit – with the result that the engine of the Vauxhall Corsa shuts down.

Meyle’s Solution:

MEYLE offers high-quality crank sensors designed to provide great stability and durability.
