It is relatively common for the rear bushes on the front wishbones on several Golf models to become weak, which can lead to a change in the caster angle and can result in ‘feathering’ of the inside of the tyre.
Worn top suspension mounts are another common fault. Usually caused by repeated driving over speed bumps or on roads pitted with potholes, the symptoms often can be heard through creaks from the suspension.
Borg & Beck
As with many vehicles fitted with a dual mass flywheel (DMF), the Golf MK VI is known to suffer from flywheel noise, premature clutch wear and the subsequent failure of the unit. This is particularly evident on models fitted with the 2.0-litre turbo diesel engines, but is a problem which Borg & Beck has overcome, with the development of a high quality single mass flywheel (SMF) replacement kit.
