One week into the seven-week Haynes Mechanix course and Group Chairman of Haynes Publishing, J Haynes explains why it is important to give the next generation the right tools for the future.
“We are really excited to have launched this brand new pilot project, which is completely new ground for Haynes, “ he said.
“We have been debating for sometime how we can engage the young and re-create the do-it-yourself mentality that we at Haynes are so proud of.
“This pilot scheme seemed like the perfect solution, where we could work with a group of 15 to 25 year olds in Islington, giving them some practical skills that they can use in day to day life – whether it be working on a friend or family member’s car, maybe even their own in the future – or more broadly teaching them to engage and commit to a long term project.
“The combination of working with Haynes Manuals, alongside the expert tutelage and guidance of the mentors, Prospex and London Youth, should help us engage with the youth club members, and enable them to get a bit dirty taking the car apart whilst, most importantly, having some fun and at the same time getting a well regarded qualification that will equip them for the future.
“We hope also that it will give them the confidence that they can do anything they put their minds to, whether it be fixing a car, or overcoming some of life’s other challenges. Of course if we do find the Haynes Mechanix of the future, that would be a bonus.”
