Manufactured from 50 micron plastic, the smart design was unveiled at Equip Auto this week and will be rolled out in the first quarter of 2014.
“If you want to innovate, you have to be brave,” said Andrea Taschini, General Manager of the Sogefi Aftermarket Business Unit. “This represents genuine added value for our customers. Les weight and bulk optimises transportation costs as well and leaves our customers with 15 percent more space for storage.
“The transparent wrapping also means quicker handling and few returns because the content is immediately visible to the mechanic.”
Each package carries a QR code which provides quick and easy access to online information and fitting instructions.
While the packaging will also be adopted on the company’s air filters, Taschini says a different approach is required on oil and fuel filters and is already in development.
Look out for our interview with Taschini, and his right-hand man in the UK Nigel Duffield, online soon and in the next issue of CAT to get their take on ECP, patent protection, the price battle and market share.
