A group of automotive apprentices are being steered in the right direction by National Tyres and Bridgestone.
The apprenticeship run by the 225-strong tyre fast fit network, will see 18 students take part in its NVQ level 2 training course, first started in 2013.
For a second year running Bridgestone has decided to support the scheme and will be providing each apprentice with a tyre toolbag, and supplying tools and equipment to assist in-branch and the classroom.
Graham Atkinson, Group Training and Development Manager for National Tyres and Autocare, said: “We recognise the importance of developing our own staff and providing comprehensive training to those who are new to the industry.
“With our apprentices, we always see an extremely strong work ethic coupled with tremendous enthusiasm to learn.
“The tyre bags gives our apprentices a boost, and contain many of the tools that will be essential for our new apprentices including Bridgestone branded merchandise, stationery and extensive product and technical information.
“They are ideal for the apprentices and add yet another layer to National’s all-round training provision.”
The 18 apprentices will undertake a two year course which, at the conclusion, will see them taking up a permanent role at one of the companies branches.
Atkinson added that already the scheme has reaped benefit as many of those who have qualified have stepped into management or operational roles.
Bridgestone’s Training Development Manager Mark Fereday, added: “National’s courses are extremely thorough and play a significant role in the future of the tyre trade.
“The bags we have provided are ideal as a starting point for their new recruits as they make their way into the industry. The idea is to give them something that has longevity and can be used for many months and years after they earn their qualifications.”
