The Federation of Engine Remanufacturers has launched a new association to give it a wider voice in the aftermarket.
The Federation of Automotive Remanufacturers was launched at the FER’s conference at Gaydon early in May and aims to attract members from the wider reman community including those working on rotating electrics, brakes, suspension and other parts.
FER President Brian Ludford said at the launch: “There’s great diverstity in automotive remanufacturing. It’s worth millions, but it could be worth millions more. We need to act collectively to get a serious message across to a range of audiences.â€
Ludford intends that the FAR will initially lobby Government in the hope it can influence local politics and educate consumers on the value of remanufactured products.
Acknowledging that the remanufacturing campaign has big hurdles to overcome – a lack of budget to bolster its image being one – Ludford said there was too much at stake to do nothing.
“We can do something about it, and we should do something about it,†he said.
Look out for an in depth look at remanufacturing in the May issue of CAT.
