Seat-belt device cuts back pain and boosts safety

CGLOCK90% of Osteopaths believe that adding a seatbelt stabiliser can reduce back ache and 70% say it improves safety in an accident, according to a survey by BackInAction.

The Osteopaths each fitted a CG-Lock seatbelt stabiliser to the standard three-point seatbelt system. They then used it in their daily driving before returning their feedback.

The stabiliser, which is distributed by Lap Belt Cinch Europe Ltd, prevents slack from returning to the lapbelt when it is removed and keeps the belt over the hip bone so that it does not ‘ride up’ over the stomach.

It has a recommended retail price of £49.99 and can be fitted in minutes to existing inertia reel seatbelts.

David Newbound, MD of BackInAction, said: “Although we provide 1000s of items to improve posture at home and in the office, the car is a difficult challenge.

“We try to test every supplier’s claims with experts and wanted to know what Osteopaths thought. The results are typical of what we hear from users… with 90% recommending the device to other drivers.”
