AUTOMOTIVE CENTRE OPENS AT SHREWSBURY COLLEGE

A new Automotive Engineering Training Centre has been opened by Shrewsbury College at the London Road campus.

Shrewsbury College is supported by many tool and equipment firms

The ribbon was cut by college Principal James Staniforth with key sponsors in attendance.

Sponsors included Draper Tools, which made a large donation of kit to the centre, as well as RMT Garage Equipment with ADAS, AC and MOT bay gear.

Migatronic  and G E Welding brought along the latest welders, portable fume extraction systems and other welding equipment. Autoglym also had their technical trainer and products on hand at the busy event. In addition to the traditional automotive technologies, Sureworks Electrical were present as the authority on EV charging stations and solar energy. The teaching team from the college were also pleased to demonstrate their new Electric/Hybrid Vehicle training equipment.

Andy Lee, Director of Employer Engagement and Curriculum Leader for Engineering and Motor Vehicle, said: “We were delighted that so many local automotive businesses were able to join us in opening the new Automotive Centre. This development has enabled us to expand and enhance our capacity to deliver accessible and relevant training in the core economic sectors of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering and Automotive for the region.”

The centre, which cost over £500K was funded partly by the Marches Local Enterprise Partnership Skills Infrastructure Capital Development Fund with £200k being awarded to the project. The College met the remainder of the costs and in partnership with its supporters.
