Exhaust system producer Bosal has announced that it is to open a manufacturing site with R&D facilities in China.

The new manufacturing plant in Shanghai will support a supply contract for its OE customer Geely, related to the Volvo XC40 passenger car. R&D operations are slated to come into effect in the same site in 2022. The site will be in the Lingang Free Trade Zone in Shanghai, chosen for it’s locality to VM plants. Around 150 people will work there once production is fully up and running.

The news follows on from the Dutch group’s recent announcement that a new site was to be opened in Sweden. Previously, Bosal went into administration in 2013, before coming back in a pre-pack, before collapsing again in 2017.
