Stellantis, the giant conglomerate that now owns Vauxhall and Opel among many other brands, has announced to its employees and union reps that it will be restarting the third night production shift in its Luton Manufacturing plant in June 2021 in order to satisfy the increased demand for the Vauxhall Vivaro, Opel Vivaro, Citroën Jumpy/Dispatch and Peugeot Expert light commercial vehicles. For this shift, a training period is necessary so the first people recruited will arrive on the site in May.
Demand has built up for light commercial vehicles, due in part to a slowdown in manufacturing worldwide because of a lack of semiconductors used to produce ECUs. Ford recently announced that it was suspending production of the Transit in Turkey until the supply issues were resolved.
