MOT TESTING SMARTPHONE SYSTEM TO ROLL OUT NEXT MONTH

Authorised testers will be able to log on to the MOT testing system using their phones from next month. The new process will eventually replace the card system currently in place.

MOT system will need phone authentication

There will not be a separate DVSA app to access the system. Instead. users will have to install a third party authentication app, such as Authy. Advantages of the new process include that users will only need to log on to the system once a day and new testers won’t need to wait for a card to show up in the post. A disadvantage is that they’ll have to remember to bring their phone to work with them of course… and make sure it has some charge!

The system will remember certain details when the authentication takes place. If any of these change, the system prompts the user to authenticate again, much like a bank app does.

So, if the tester change site location, such as visiting another garage, the system will prompt to authenticate again.

One initiated, DVSA will no longer issue new cards to testers.
