Training to become New Year’s resolution for ECP

Motor factor chain LKQ Euro Car Parts has published the 2022 course schedule for its LKQ Academy, in what is set to be its busiest year for training yet.

The programme includes more hybrid and EV training dates, with the parts supplier planning to offer courses to more than 3,000 technicians over the next 12 months. This includes 2,400 training places for level three, and 600 places for level four, all of which are part of the IMI’s TechSafe scheme.

Bob Wiffen, Workshop Solutions Director at ECP, said: “Our focus is on helping garages to continue to run successful, competitive businesses that are sustainable in the face of ever-changing technology, both now and in the future.”

Steve Nash, CEO of the IMI added: “We have been saying for several years that investment and commitment is crucial right across the automotive sector to ensure the UK can meet its decarbonisation targets, with a workforce that is appropriately skilled. According to our latest data we will need 90,000 qualified technicians to work on electric vehicles by 2030 and LKQ’s plan to upskill at least 3,000 technicians in 2022 alone will play an important role in meeting that goal.”

LKQ Academy works with some of biggest names in training – whose courses are included in the gold membership: Bosch, T10, Andy Savva, Pro Moto, LUK, ZF, Our Virtual Academy, Nissens, Electude and Bridgestone. The scheme was previously known as AutoEducation and had been started by Andrew Page a decade ago. In more recent times, LKQ merged the Andrew Page and ECP training programmes, eventually rebranding them under the current moniker in October 2021.
